Course Overview
As a consequence of the frenetic pace in organisations today, those in leadership roles rarely find the opportunity to reflect on their roles as leader, and how they balance their work role with other aspects of their life.
The South African Executive is continuously faced with a vast range of challenges - mergers, management buy-outs, takeovers, internationalisation, diversity, restructuring, increased customer awareness and transformation. In order to successfully deal with these challenges, Executives need to manage, inspire and motivate staff throughout the organisation; ensure effective executive board and team functioning; influence and negotiate with stakeholders inside and outside the organisation; mentor, coach and delegate to senior colleagues – as well as manage their own career, personal development and work/life balance.
The rise of executive coaching has been driven by the need for a more readily available, more pragmatic source of executive learning. The combination of learning and support is what makes executive coaching such a powerful instrument in the development of Executives.
Until recently it has been less common for executives and directors to continue to learn and develop themselves. They instead assumed the role of mentors and coaches, accepting that their own need for learning and support is something of the past.
Work Dynamics in association with Tavistock Consultancy Services is pleased to offer a first of its kind Executive Coaching Development Programme to the South African market – the Tavistock Accredited Certificate in Coaching Skills.
Work Dynamics (Pty) Ltd was established in 1993 by leading practitioners in response to a growing need for professional human resource and organisational development services. In 1997 a formal strategic alliance was established when P-E Corporate Services (Pty) Ltd became a shareholder of Work Dynamics (Pty) Ltd. This arrangement is in line with the vision of the two organisations to forge strategic alliances and partnerships with like-minded professional organisations. As a strategic alliance, P-E Corporate Services (Pty) Ltd and Work Dynamics (Pty) Ltd are dedicated to searching for achieving standards of professional excellence that assist our clients in producing effective results. and process of
executive coaching

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE …
The Development Programme is offered with two separate modules.
In the period between the Modules participants will be expected to engage in coaching experiences to apply acquired coaching knowledge and skills. Each participant will therefore have to identify at least two executives to practice their skills on.
LEARNING APPROACH
The Programme Tutors will draw on didactic, experiential and observational learning techniques to maximise participants’ skill development. Systems and psychodynamic theory will be explored and participants will be expected to work with their own case studies and be prepared to use experiential learning techniques and feedback. Other learning formats which will be used include group discussions, facilitated role-plays, consultancy syndicates, critical incident analysis, video analysis and feedback.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Assessment of participants will take place on
a continuous basis throughout the course:
• Reflective notes will be required after each module (1 500 words)
-
to assess learning and development awareness of the
psychodynamics and systemic processes at work in coaching.
• Write up of coaching casework (3 000-4 000 words) – to assess
understanding of the developmental relationship and capacity to
use training insight in practice.
Guidelines will be provided for assessed work for students. For award of the Tavistock Certificate in Executive Coaching, each unit must be passed at 40%. Failed units may be resubmitted once. Each unit will be marked independently by course staff.
